Flock Test

Veritech

This is a test of Flock:

We believe that it should be easy for everyone to contribute to and participate on the web. To that end, we've started with integrating tools that make it easier to blog, publish your photos and share and discover things that are interesting to you.

I haven't blogged in ages, eh? Maybe something like Flock would help me out a bit. Basically it is a modification of Firefox, but geared toward having a seamless interface to various web-based services like Del.icio.us, Flickr, and blogging. Instead of just making an extension to Firefox, it is an attempt to have a full package.

It still has a ways to go, but the progress so far is pretty encouraging. For instance, you can drag and image from your hard drive into the image upload bar and hit Upload to get it to flickr. Then go to a website, select some text and send it to the Shelf. Then go to the blog view, create a new entry and drag the image and some shelf items into the blog entry and post it.

It wasn't quite that simple in this case, since the integration with Blogger doesn't seem so good (perhaps there was an API change in blogger recently?) making it so that titles weren't working correctly. It also added paragraph tags which gave way too much spacing (blogger inserts automatically based on carriage returns). But those seem like issues that could be cleared up easily and probably aren't an issue on Wordpress, etc.

The integration with del.ico.us seems decent. Can search by tags (though not multiple partials) in the favorites view. Deleting a bookmark seemed to reset the dates on all the other bookmarks, so I think it must have deleted and re-added them all, which is odd...

It still has a ways to go, but I think it does have a lot of potential. I don't think I'll be using it full-time in the near future, but it reminds me that I should get going with blogging and del.icio.us again. My head's been distracted a bit with yo-yoing and 3d lately. Comics especially have kind of taken a back seat as of late. Guess we'll see what happens from here on...
